Interstate 35W/Lake Street reconstruction project open house scheduled for Aug. 17 in Minneapolis

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The public is invited to learn about the four and a half year reconstruction of I-35W between 43rd Street and downtown Minneapolis at an upcoming open house.

The open house will take place on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Children’s Village Center building at Hope Community, Inc., 611 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis.  There will be no formal presentation. Open house attendees will have an opportunity to find out about construction staging and traffic impacts. The project is scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 21 with work beginning on the Portland Avenue bridge over I-94 and the Franklin Avenue bridge over I-35W.

In addition, project staff will be available to answer questions on the overall I-35W project which includes the following improvements:

  • Repairing and replacing bridges and pavement on I-35W
  • Constructing a new southbound ramp to Lake Street, and a new northbound ramp to 28th Street. 
  • Reconstructing Lake Street (Co. Rd 3) between Blaisdell Avenue and 5th Avenue.
  • Building a multi-level enclosed transit station with a pedestrian and bicycle connection between the Midtown Greenway north of Lake Street and 31st Street south of Lake Street. This station will be served by Orange Line Bus Rapid transit, express and local bus service.

The multi-year project will improve accessibility, safety and mobility in the corridor as well as provide better access to the Lake Street Business District and transit service on I-35W and Lake Street.  For more information, visit: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/i35wminneapolis/
