Weekend closure of County Highway 96 bridge in White Bear Lake rescheduled July 7-10
Lane reductions scheduled on I-35E from County Road E to County Highway 96 for shoulder work
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, July 7, the County Highway 96 bridge will close at Interstate 35E. During the closure, traffic will not be able to cross the interstate and which means motorists will not be permitted to turn left onto the bridge from either I-35E or County Highway 96. However, the following movements will be allowed:
- Northbound I-35E to eastbound County Highway 96
- Southbound I-35E to westbound County Highway 96
- Eastbound County Highway 96 to southbound I-35E and
- Westbound County Highway 96 to northbound I-35E
The County Highway 96 bridge closure was rescheduled from the weekend of June 23 due to forecasts of rain and unseasonably low temperatures during that weekend. The closure is necessary as crews apply a chip seal (thin coat of asphalt and gravel) to the bridge deck. The bridge will re-open by 5 a.m., Monday, July 10.
In addition, I-35E will be reduced to two lanes from County Rd E to County Highway 96 starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 7 until 5 a.m. Monday, July 10. The lane closure is needed for shoulder work.
The bridge work is part of the two-year I-35E Goose Lake Road and County Highway 96 road resurfacing project. In addition to resurfacing, the work includes widening the road, re-decking and widening the Highway 96 bridge, replacing the I-35E bridges over Goose Lake Road, updating drainage, repairing guardrail and constructing a trail. The work is expected to be complete by late summer 2017.
