Soil investigation work for Willmar Wye project begins January 11
WILLMAR, Minn. — Soil investigation work on Highway 12 for the Willmar Wye project begins Wednesday, January 11 and will be completed Friday, January 13. Crews from American Engineering Testing, Inc. will drill into the road in order to obtain soil samples. The investigation identifies soil properties and helps determine the thickness of the gravel. The samples will be used to help determine the thickness of pavement needed.
During this work traffic will be held in each direction. The approximate hold time will be 15 minutes. Flaggers will be on site directing traffic.
The Willmar Wye project will provide a direct connection between the Marshall and Morris Subdivisions of the BNSF rail network. The project also includes a rail spur that will provide access to the City of Willmar’s industrial park. The Willmar Wye project is a public private partnership between the Minnesota Department of Transportation, BNSF, US DOT, Kandiyohi County, City of Willmar and Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission (EDC).
