I-35 lane closures, traffic delays expected June 18-20 to replace weigh-in-motion sensors

OWATONNA, Minn. – Interstate 35 motorists will encounter lane closures and traffic delays starting Monday, June 18 near milepost 30 (south of Hope, Minn., exit 32) as crews replace weigh-in-motion sensors, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Sensors on the northbound lanes of I-35 will be replaced in the same location. The new southbound sensors will be relocated 10-20 feet to the north of the existing location. Work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, June 20.

The weigh-in-motion system is a series of devices to record axle and gross vehicle weights while a vehicle drives over a measurement site in the road. The weighing process is more efficient for trucks because the weight is measured while the vehicle is in motion on the roadway. To learn more about the weigh-in-motion process and other MnDOT traffic data collection methods, go to http://www.dot.state.mn.us/traffic/data/coll-methods.html#WIM.

MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
