Joplin Street at Hwy 10 in Elk River closes, short detour begins, Aug. 7
Access to local businesses, park, boat landing available at Highway 10/Waco Street
ST CLOUD, Minn. – Motorists who typically use Joplin Street to travel south of Highway 10, west of Lake Orono, will encounter a short detour after the Joplin Street/eastbound Highway 10 intersection in Elk River closes Monday, Aug. 7.
The detour will direct motorists one mile farther west on Highway 10 to the Highway 10/Waco Street signalized intersection, to local businesses and other destinations south of Highway. The detour is expected to add less than five minutes travel time to most trips, and will remain in place through the end of August. Get detour map.
Motorists are reminded that all local businesses will remain accessible throughout the Highway 10 Lake Orono bridge replacement project.
The detour and other traffic changes are part of the 2017-2018 New Lake Orono Bridge project in Elk River. When complete in fall 2018, the project will replace the 75-year-old Highway 10 bridge spanning Lake Orono with a new, modern bridge; resurface Highway 10 between Joplin Street NW and Xenia Ave NW; improve the Highway 10/Joplin Street/185th Avenue intersection; construct a new trail between Gary Street NW and Simonet Drive NW; install new drainage infrastructure and make other improvements.
